About the research

This research study will develop a simulation framework for modeling and evaluating traffic control at signalized intersections equipped with advanced infrastructure sensing (AIS) technology that can accurately identify the position and speed of vehicles enroute to the intersection. This will provide information similar to connected vehicle data, with the key difference that a much higher penetration rate is anticipated with use of AIS than will initially be available from connected vehicles (CV). This study will examine ways to simulate an intersection equipped with AIS using microsimulation, and explore the impact of the sensing range on the effectiveness of AIS-enhanced control.
